In 1947, two priests from Kerala set up a small community, “Siluvaigiri Ashram”, in the Diocese of Salem Tamil Nadu, in order to lead a life of monastic spirituality, inculturation and evangelization. In 1952, the community was canonically erected as a dependent Priory of the Benedictine Abby of St. Andrew, Bruges, Belgium. In 1957, the Ashram was transferred to its present site on the south of Bangalore. Asirvanam Benedictine Monastery, as it is now called, was raised to the statue of a Conventual Priory in 1976.

The activities of the Monastery include conducting retreats both in and outside of the Monastery campus, primary and higher in both English and Local language (Kannada) education of the children in the neighborhood, charitable help to the needy around the monastery and patial training in carpentary and also we are having small diary farm.

Location :

Near Anchepalya Village, 20 km south of Bangalore on the Anchepayla – Kambipura Road, east of the Bangalore – Mysore State Highway.

By Car :

From Bangalore, take the Bangalore – Mysore State Highway, pass by Kengeri. Upon arrival in Ancheypalya, turn east towards Kambipura. The gate of the Monastery in approx 400 meters further on to the left.

By Bus :

From City Market Bus Station (Victoria Hospital Gate) take bus Nos. 218, 226 to 231 (including A.B.C branch number). Get down at Anchepalya (after the Rajarajeshwari Medical College), and follow directions “By Car” from the village.

By Rail :

From Bangalore city railway station take the subway to Majestic B.M.T.C. Bus Station (opposite) and follow directions “ByBus – From Majestic Bus Station”.

By Air :

From Bangalore International Airport take bus to Majestic Bus Station and follow “By Bus” or take a Taxi from the Airport and follow “By Car”.
